New City & Guilds Level 2 Award in The Safe Manual Handling of Objects (0018-04)

This course is essential for all those involved in any form of manual handling involving objects within any of the industries in the land-based Sector. But, anyone who has a practical occupation which involves lifting and carrying will benefit from learning how to do this safely.

It covers reasons for safe manual handling in the workplace, possible risks involved, carrying out safe handling techniques and using appropriate mechanical manual handling aids. 

Staff delivering and assessing these qualifications are approved Certificate of Competence City & Guilds NPTC Assessors. For this qualification Assessors do not have to be independent, , therefore they can have been involved with the training of the Candidate. Assessors who have not been involved in the training of candidates may also carry out assessments.

You will study the underpinning knowledge essential for safe lifting and practise lifting and moving a selection of items, on your own and with other people. 

This will lead to The City & Guilds Level 2 Award in the Safe Handling of Objects (0018-04)

There is one learning outcome for this qualification:

The learner will:

LO1 Understand the reasons for safe manual handling in the workplace (Criteria 1.1 – 1.5)

This learning outcome is divided into Assessment criteria. The learner can:

  • AC1.1 State the statutory duties of employers for health and safety in the workplace in respect to manual handling
  • AC1.2 Outline the responsibilities of employees for health and safety in the workplace in respect to manual handling
  • AC1.3 State symptoms of ill health and potential injuries that may occur from incorrect manual handling
  • AC1.4 Outline the possible consequences of not complying with health and safety within the workplace
    AC1.5 Explain why it is important to report any faults in equipment in a timely manner

This qualification is usually assessed by the Trainer who delivered the training. Small groups can be trained and assessed in one day (up to 3 trainees), larger groups trained on day one and assessed on another mutually convenient date (3-12 trainees).

You will receive a City & Guilds Level 2 Award in the Safe Handling of Objects (0018-04). Note this is issued directly by City & Guilds NPTC.

Training is £160.00 per candidate, Assessment is 77.00. Registration through CEPT is £ 27.00 and certification with City & Guilds NPTC is £35.00 total payable is £ 299.00. Note: There is no VAT payable because B.E.S.T. in Horticulture Education Limited is a Not-for-Profit Organisation.
